AKA Prickly Pear Cactus
These pads are shipped to you ready to plant!
You'll want to plant them out of your pet's reach if possible, so they aren't muenching on it while it's trying to grow. These are mature pads and not for feeding. They contain harmful concentrations of oxalic acid. Oxalic acid makes calcium unavailable to the body. Calcium is vital to reptiles ensuring proper growth and strong bones. Only feed the newer pads that sprout from the mature pads.
Although this species has no spines, it does have tiny, hairlike glochids (glah-kids). These do not need to be removed if feeding to tortoises, but DO need to be removed in order to feed to bearded dragons. Simply use a sharp knife and scrap them off.
